I wanted to try something entirely different and out of my box, so when I heard that MTV's "The Real World" was doing a casting call in Atlanta, I knew I had to go to experience what it's like to be in a casting call.
To be completely honest, here is my background:
I have never seen an episode of The Real World.
I do not have a mind complex.
I do not have a typical reality stereotype that I fit in.
I am not ridiculously attractive.
I have not been through any kind of traumatic experience.
So, I could most likely gauge that I wasn't going to "make the cut", and I accepted this before I applied.
2 Days before the casting call, I went online and I filled out the online application. The next day I got a email confirmation for their VIP line. (TIP: I believe if you email then an online application, you automatically get this confirmation.) When I got to the venue, there were quite a bunch of people already there. We were asked to fill out an application. On the application, they had questions such as:
How is your relationship with your parents?
Are you in a relationship? What qualities do you look for in a person?
What are you passionate about?
I waited for a long time, but during that time- I got to talk to many different people. You could say there was a mix between the stereotypical reality types and the normal folks. (TIP: If you have a VIP pass, you have to get the attention of the man who is coordinating the lines; or you will be waiting for a very long time!)
Once we were in line, we met more people and waiting outside for the interviewers to call us in. We sat down in a group of ten and introduced ourselves. The interviewer asked us one question and went around the table giving our answers. At the end, the interviewer told us that they will be making calls around 9-10pm this evening for video interviews tomorrow, and we were excused to leave.
Results: Even though I knew I wasn't what they were looking for- I was surprisingly anxious about it. Needless to say, I didn't make the cut. (TIP: I believe that if you passed the initial round, you were notified at the end of the first interview. The part about "We'll call you" is most likely not true!) Overall, I am glad I went to the casting call. I met a lot of new people (great networking opportunity*), and I had a good time talking to people I didn't know.
Also, I only know one individual who made it to the next round. He had a 'player' complex and was very attractive. (haha)
I guess I'm not cut out for show business :P I think I will just stick to blogging. :)
