Location: South Beach, Miami, Florida, USA
Date: September 6th, 2011; Labor Day Weekend
Purpose: Vacation - Friend had racked up some hotel points at the W
Company: Christelle, Annie, Faith, Edmund, Eric
I was fortunate to get the opportunity to go to Miami with a couple of friends during the Labor Day weekend. It would be my first time at the W and my first time getting to spend time in Miami. I've been to Destin, Panama City, and a few other cities in Florida before; but I hadn't been to the notorious MIA.
The atmosphere of this beach reminds me of MTV's The Jersey Shore. It's very tanned, heavily influenced by Cuban culture, and tons of party places.
Night: This was also the first time I had to wait in front of the club for hours and not get in! Atlanta did not prepare me for this human stampede! Admission to the club was $25 per person. That was ridiculous to me since ladies always get in free. Once in the club, they were playing house music. It's not the kind of music I enjoy. Overall Value that night: Not Great.
Day: Walking around the shopping area was nice, but nothing grand. I love the fact that MIA doesn't sleep. There were restaurants that line the streets and options to dine outside and people watch (very European, me like).
Overall: I would come again if the opportunity came along and was a good deal. Would I plan a trip out of it? Not really. I say this only because of the other places I've been - I'm an aspiring traveler!
Good For: Weekend Partying, Beach, People Watching, Cuban Food
Not Good For: Shopping, Sight-Seeing
Tips: It's not hot and humid, it's HAWT and SUFFOCATIN!! Dress scantly & prepare to sweat. Bring lots of Money and Comfortable Heels.
